This latest addition to LA County’s Department of Mental Health Services is a highly efficient mental health clinic which specializes in catering to the behavioral needs of children and adolescents. SWA Architects was selected through a rigorous qualifications and design competition process sponsored by the County of Los Angeles’ Department of Public Works. The new San Fernando mental health center is designed to support the vision of making a difference in the lives of those young Los Angeles County residents diagnosed with mental illness, by fostering an environment that is inviting, community-oriented, safe, and promotes a sense of wellness. Programmatic elements include several administrative offices, consultation areas, a central large conference room, break rooms, a separate small conference room, and a central courtyard patio. Consideration as a potential venue for after hours events has also been incorporated into the design to bring added value to the County.
